Discours de l’Ambassadeur à l’occasion de l’inauguration du centre de santé mentale d’Altindag, à Ankara, jeudi 20 septembre 2018
Ladies and gentlemen,
I am very glad to be here with you for the opening ceremony of this mental health center, the first of its kind in Ankara. I am glad that France’s financial contribution and the work of Expertise France and the Embassy helped kickstart this project that answers one of the pressing needs of the Syrian community in Altındağ.
This center, thanks to the funding provided by ECHO, will provide mental health care and special education services to those in need, namely those who have gone through terrible episodes in the framework of war and exile, and will help them access a better future.
This project would not have been possible without the incredible work of UOSSM, an NGO that French government has been proudly working with for several years. I seize this opportunity to praise this NGO’s tireless efforts in order to provide medical care to the Syrians affected by war, in Syria, but also in countries where the population has taken refuge like Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon. I also want to pay tribute to the work achieved by Relief International in order to get this center running.
Last but not least, I would like to thank the Turkish authorities, namely the Ministry of Health, for their support to the opening of this center. It reflects the incredible solidarity that Turkey and its people have shown while hosting more than 3.5 million Syrian refugees on their soil and being, as we all know, the largest refugees host country in the world.
I would like to reaffirm that France and the EU stand with Turkey, in order to help it cope with the challenges brought by the presence of such a big number of refugees.
I would like to end by congratulating once again all the actors that have played a major role in the opening of this mental health center and by wishing the employees of this facility all the possible success in their challenging and essential task.
Thanks you for your attention.
