Situation in Syria (12 April 2018) [fr]
Excerpts from the TF1 interview of President Emmanuel Macron: ": "We have evidence that last week, almost ten days ago, chemical weapons were used - at least chlorine - and that they were used by Bachar al-Assad’s regime."
"What will we continue to do in Syria?
First of all, fight to the very end against the terrorist groups – together, as part of the Coalition.
Second, ensure that international law is respected and, as we have done, continue at the UN to obtain ceasefires for civilian populations.
Third, humanitarian law and humanitarian access: Help NGOs assist the populations on the ground.
Fourth, remove the regime’s chemical warfare capacity.
Fifth, prepare the future of Syria, because it is the only means to peace."
"In no case will France allow an escalation to take place, or anything that might harm the stability of the region. But in this day, we cannot allow for the action of regimes who believe that anything, even the worst, is permitted – in contravention of international law."
